THE ADVENTURE BEGINS
ECTON BRIDGE
Endless wonders to explore, precious memories to treasure.

THE MANIFOLD VALLEY

Ecton Bridge is nestled in The Manifold Valley, an ideal base for your peak district holiday. The Manifold Way, a favourite for walkers and cyclists runs for 81/2 miles along the route of the disused Leek and Manifold light railway. It begins at Hulme End, just two miles to the north, running past Ecton Bridge and winding through the valley to Waterhouses at the southern end, the ideal starting route to discover the lush valleys and rugged wild peaks of the area. The track is linked with paths and bridleways, giving endless opportunities to explore, from picturesque villages to towering hills.
This is cave country: The best known is Thors Cave, a pleasant two mile walk away. Once you get there it’s a steep climb up the steps to the top, but well worth the effort.
Ecton is an area steeped in history. Ecton Hill has copper and lead deposits which have been worked for over 3500 years. During the 18th century The Duke of Devonshire mined the ‘hollow hill’, creating the deepest mine in England. The area, a Site of Special Scientific Interest is now owned by the National Trust.
